The New York Musical Theatre Festival is the most prestigious new musical festival in the world, known locally as ‘The Sundance of Musical Theatre’ for its role as the birthplace of exciting, genre-busting new musical theatre. Shows that take part in the festival are regularly transferred to longer Off-Broadway runs, US tours and some have even transferred to Broadway. When in New York in mid-March, Tom and Cordelia found that the buzz surrounding BURIED’s participation in NYMF was already building, for both its unique music, tone and subject matter. Mainstream entertainment is saturated with serial killer themes, particularly in America. Their audiences are not only fascinated by it, but the preponderance of serial killer series such as Dexter, The Following, Mindhunter, True Detective, The Alienist, Conversations With A Killer and many others have led to a super appetite for this genre.
Combined with its very British dark humour and the unconventional yet catchy score, we’re highly confident that the show will appeal to a very wide audience and to the media as well. Looking at NYMF’s track record of successes, we think that BURIED has a very promising commercial future, and is a rare, truly exciting, homegrown project to get involved with.
